Multiple media outlets reported that ByteDance is secretly developing a
AI smart glasses integrated with its large language model, Doubao. The product has
reportedly entered the stages of supply chain negotiations and technical finalization.
It will focus on core functions such as real-time translation, voice interaction, and
image recognition, aiming to break into the highly competitive smart wearable market
by leveraging the combined strengths of hardware, AI, and a rich content ecosystem.
The exact launch timeline and regions for ByteDance’s smart glasses have yet to be
confirmed. According to sources familiar with the matter, ByteDance is currently
negotiating with suppliers to finalize product features, technical specifications, cost,
and release schedules.
The year 2025 marks a surge in AI smart glasses launches, with tech giants such as
Samsung, Meta, Apple, and ByteDance all planning to release new AI+AR products
or expand their presence in the AI eyewear industry chain.
ByteDance’s entry adds a new dimension to this competition. Its core advantage lies
in the synergy of usage scenarios and ecosystem: platforms like TikTok and Toutiao
provide high-frequency use cases—for example, content creators using the glasses
to record videos with real-time subtitles, travelers accessing AR-guided tours
powered by Doubao AI, or students practicing spoken English through voice
interaction.
In addition, ByteDance aims to keep hardware costs under CNY 1,500, targeting the
mass consumer market. This positions the product differently from competitors such
as Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses (priced at $299) and Xiaomi’s upcoming model that rivals
Meta, potentially accelerating price drops and widespread adoption.
